ATHLETIC TRAINERS & COACHES

Do More with Your Data

Turning Injury Data into Action

Athletic Trainers and coaches are direct influencers on sports safety. Sports injury prevention would be much more difficult without them and their injury surveillance capabilities. Since 2006, the Datalys Center has been working closely with athletic trainers, coaches, and other sports leaders around the country via multicenter, multiyear research programs to further the efforts of researchers, public health officials, associations, policymakers, and the public in understanding and preventing sports injuries and illness.

Our Work with Athletic Trainers

Surveillance is the first step in the prevention process, and injury and illness prevention is the first domain identified in the BOC Athletic Trainers’ Role Delineation Study. The Datalys Center and Athletic Trainers work together to describe injury patterns in sports ranging from 5-year-olds through college participation. None of the Datalys Center’s injury surveillance programs would be possible without the selfless support of countless athletic trainers across the youth, high school, and collegiate levels of sport.

Contribute to Data Analysis

In the 40+ years of injury surveillance, it’s never been easier to contribute data. Datalys created a system that extracts common data elements from one of several certified Electronic Health Record applications. This allows athletic trainers to document injuries and illnesses as part of their standard clinical practice, eliminating the need to double-enter data for purposes of injury surveillance.

Athletic trainers interested in injury and illness prevention can contact the Datalys Center for opportunities to participate in our youth, high school, or collegiate injury surveillance programs. They can reach out to info@datalyscenter.org or toll-free at 855-832-4222.

Partnering to Prevent Sports Injuries

The Datalys Center’s core competency is managing and reporting injury surveillance programs. To do this, we work with other organizations, such as the NCAA, the National Federation of State High School Associations, and BioCrossroads of Indiana, to collect data for comparison for 25 sports from over 140 high schools and colleges.

Your school’s contribution will make a difference. Whether as a part of the NCAA Injury Surveillance Program, High School NATION™, or High School RIO™, the crucial injury surveillance data you and the other leaders in your organization collect will contribute to furthering the understanding and prevention of sports injuries.
